The moment I get re-acquainted with home and the office again is roughly the same instant I'm forced to pack up and head out. Funny how that works, no?
Regardless of my feelings of displacement, I am pleased to inform you that Lar, Randy, Nick and myself will be hopping on a plane tomorrow morning for sunny Indianapolis, to attend GenCON '08.
GenCON is one of those I've been constantly told that we 'must' attend, so once again we are bending to the will of the people. Truth be told, we're immensely looking forward to it.
We'll be at Booth #1601 for the duration of the show, and we'll have plenty of books, t-shirts, ladies Ts, and con exclusive posters. Lar will of course be taking commissions, and rumor has it that if you stop by the booth a few times, you just might see him working on an LFG page or two.
If you're planning on attending, please do come by as we'd love to see you, shake your hand and maybe talk your ear off on whatever it is that's on our mind.
We'll see you in Indianapolis.

I've got a few reading items to go through today, as I've been making more of an effort this week to get back to my reading.
Secret Invasion (Comic Series)
As I mentioned briefly on Monday, I've had very conflicting feelings towards Secret Invasion, Marvel's summer event.
On one side, I love the concept of earth being invaded by the Skrulls (they've been due), and the method in which they're doing so, not an outright attach, was handled rather well by Bendis.
On the other side of that coin, however, I find each standalone issue to be rather unsatisfying, and like all Marvel 'events', if you don't follow every one of their 1,893,203 titles, you might find yourself lost here and there. To give you an example of that, where's Nick Fury been? Who and what exactly is Spider-Woman? How does Wolverine find the time to join every single super hero group of existence?
While I'm waiting on Issue 5, and will of course follow this series through it's completion, I'm hoping that perhaps unlike Civil War, there will be more everlasting repercussions on the Marvel universe.
Then again, knowing Quesada, he'll most likely push for a retcon of the last 5 years. I wouldn't be too surprised should we learn that the Steve Rogers who died in Civil War was a skrull, and the real Steve Rogers has been fighting the Skrulls for the last decade, only to shortly make his valiant return.
I got into the Temeraire series last year, with the news that Peter Jackson had picked up the movie rights (yes, at times, I'm a sheep). Since then, I've been having a blast with the series, and the portrayal of the Napoleonic wars with the inclusion of Dragons as air cavalry has kept me glued to the page.
Thus, it's with some disappointment, that I must report that Novik's latest, Victory of Eagles is the first misstep.
Both Laurence and Temeraire take a turn for the first, the action was lacking and the overall plot movement of the series slows down to a crawl.
That said, I'm hoping this slump won't continue, and Book 6 will get things moving again.
Green Arrow: Year One (Graphic Novel)
I have to say, this one surprised the hell out of me.
I've generally never cared much for the Green Arrow, as the idea of a modern day rich Robin Hood with high tech arrows just never did it for me.
It was only upon my recent re-watching of the Justice League animated series (All four seasons), that Ollie has grabbed my attention. And when I passed by this beautiful hardcover, I couldn't resist.
Beautifully drawn, and wonderfully plotted, I couldn't get enough of the origins of The Green Arrow. My only wish is that this wasn't a standalone graphic novel, but instead the start of a complete franchise reboot.
Either way, well worth the read.
